High Torque 4 Inch Geared Hub Motor for AGV and Mobile Robot Applications
The SB4GL is a compact brushless geared hub motor designed for applications requiring high torque in a small footprint. Featuring an integrated planetary gearbox with a 1:6.5 reduction ratio, this motor delivers up to 50N·m peak torque while maintaining smooth low-speed operation.
Unlike conventional direct-drive hub motors, the built-in gearbox significantly increases wheel torque, making it ideal for small autonomous mobile robots, AGV platforms, service robots, electric carts, inspection robots, and indoor transportation equipment.
The solid rubber tire design eliminates puncture risks and reduces maintenance requirements, making the motor suitable for industrial environments where reliability is critical.

Key Features
Compact Size with Powerful Torque
Although equipped with only a 4-inch wheel, the SB4GL can provide up to 50N·m peak torque at 48V operation. This high torque output allows the motor to move heavy loads at low speeds without requiring additional external gear reducers.
Integrated Planetary Gear Reduction
The built-in 1:6.5 planetary gearbox offers:
- Higher starting torque
- Improved climbing capability
- Better low-speed controllability
- Reduced motor current under load
- Enhanced efficiency for robotic applications
Hall Sensor Feedback
Integrated Hall sensors provide precise rotor position information for smooth startup and reliable speed control. The motor is compatible with most brushless DC motor controllers.
Forward and Reverse Rotation
The motor supports bidirectional operation, allowing easy integration into:
- Differential drive robots
- AGV vehicles
- Electric transport carts
- Automated warehouse equipment
- Mobile inspection platforms
Maintenance-Free Solid Tire
The durable solid rubber tire eliminates air leakage and punctures while providing excellent wear resistance for indoor and outdoor surfaces.
Typical Applications
Mobile Robot Platforms
The compact size and high torque make this motor an excellent choice for:
- AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles)
- AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots)
- Educational robots
- Security patrol robots
- Service robots
Industrial Material Handling Equipment
Suitable for:
- Electric trolleys
- Transfer carts
- Warehouse carriers
- Automated transport systems
- Small traction vehicles
Medical and Service Equipment
Can be used in:
- Mobile medical devices
- Hospital transport carts
- Service robots
- Inspection equipment
- Portable machinery
Technical Advantages Compared with Direct Drive Motors
| Feature | Geared Hub Motor | Direct Drive Hub Motor |
|---|---|---|
| Starting Torque | Excellent | Moderate |
| Low-Speed Performance | Excellent | Average |
| Compact Design | Excellent | Good |
| Climbing Ability | Excellent | Moderate |
| Position Control | Better | Good |
| Load Capacity | Higher | Lower |
The integrated gearbox allows the motor to generate substantially more wheel torque than a direct-drive motor of similar size, making it particularly suitable for robotic mobility applications.
Customization Options
To meet different project requirements, the SB4GL can be customized with:
- 24V / 36V / 48V operating voltage
- Different rated speeds
- Single shaft version
- Customized cable length
- Encoder integration
- Waterproof enhancements
- Alternative tire configurations
- Matching motor controller packages
OEM and ODM services are available for volume orders.
Why Choose the SB4GL Geared Hub Motor?
- Compact 4-inch design
- Up to 50N·m peak torque
- Integrated 1:6.5 planetary gearbox
- Hall sensor feedback
- Forward and reverse operation
- Durable solid rubber tire
- Low maintenance requirements
- Suitable for AGV and robotic platforms
- Custom voltage and speed options available
The SB4GL geared hub motor provides an ideal balance of compact dimensions, high torque output, and reliable operation, making it a preferred drive solution for robotic and industrial mobility applications.

Hi Tony,
I need 3 km/h and can only use 12volt. Can you gear it down for this low speed?
Yes, it is ok to lower the speed and voltage.
what is the rated motor torque?
How to buy this?
please email at sales@uumotor.com, our staff will contact you the buying details.
Hi,
I would like to use this motor for a prototype. Can i have more information by e-mail (connectors, electrical characteristics…)
Thanks
the motor details is as in this motor page https://www.uumotor.com/competitive-150w-small-motor-4-inch-hub-motor.html
Hello,
I’m wondering what the highest wattage you can make in a 24v version of these?
:-)
…or even the highest wattage in a 48v version?
yes, we can make 48v version, but usually, we suggest 36v or 24v.
Okay…but my question was:
What is the highest wattage you can make them (either 24v or 48v)?
Aren’t you trying to sell these? If you are, you should attempt a reply to what I asked.
36V
WATTAGE!!
What is the highest WATTAGE that you can make these?
36V
Do you not know the difference between WATTAGE and voltage?
Stop quoting voltage!!
I need wattage!
Get it correct this time.
oh, sorry. The max power is 150w.
Thank you…finally.
You have mentioned in the description…”The standard version…36v 150w…”. And you also said, “if you need a different speed, we can customize it for you”.
What sort of ‘customizing’ are you referring to?
the rated speed 400RPM to 1200RPM is customizable.
Hello!
We are currently prototyping a mobile robot base and are considering using your motor. Please send as much and detailed information as possible (delivery, data sheet, etc) to my email adress.
Thank you and best regards,
We will reply you from our business email.

Can these be mounted to a larger rim. Would these work for a mountain board.
ie..

Do you sell a shaft for this motor? I have one and I don’t know how to attach it to my structure…
Thanks!
Sorry, we do not sell shafts.
Hi, Can you change the maximum speed from this 4 inch hub wheel to +/- 6kmh?? And if so, does this increase torque? I would like to run the motor at 24V but need high torque…
Sorry, we can not make it in such lower speed with high torque.
Hi,
I am making a mobility scooter for myself with 3 wheels.
1. Is 10km/h minimum speed, or does it mean it can do zero to 10 km/h?
2. Can a throttle be attached to 3 controllers at the same time?
yes, the speed can be 0 to 10km/h by throttle controller. If you want to 3 motors, usually by throttle controllers, but it is not very good in this way.
Thanks Tony.
Any suggestions on controlling 3 motors
I am sorry that we have no such controller.
hi,
do you sell the tyre for this ?
Yes.we also have tires for it.
When will this be for sale?
It is ok to sell now. But the sample making time is a little longer.
What is the minimal speed you can provide this motor with? I’m looking for a 24V, 6-10km/h version.
Can you deliver it with a grey non striping tire?
Can you provide me a technical drawing of this motor?
Regards,
Steven
For the speed 10km/h is ok, but the tire, we only has this black tire. For the motor drawing, please refer to this https://www.uumotor.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/HB4GL_drawing.jpg
Hi Tony,
Is this 4″ skateboard-hub still available? What is the max speed (Volt, Watt ) configuration you can customize?
Is the color black or silver?
Do you have a 36v sinewave-controller for this motor?
Thanks
The motor is available and max speed can be 25km/h. Current version is black. We do not have sine wave controller for it.
Is a 36v 250w motor available in this size?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
It is a pity, the 4 inch size is small. But this motor peak power can reach 250w.
